Nick Eakins, Registered Psychotherapist (Qual.)
Hello, my name is Nick Eakins (he/him), and I am a Registered Psychotherapist at Valley Connections Counselling in Dundas. I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Classical Studies from Queen’s University.
I offer client-directed services and take a collective approach to counselling. My aim is to support and encourage each client along their own journey to self awareness in a way that is adaptive, authentic, and free of judgement. Trusting in the power of the therapeutic relationship, I affirmably accept my duty to listen intentionally, to express empathy and unconditional positive regard, and to offer appropriate, compassionate, and responsible clinical guidance. I draw from evidence-based theoretical approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and existential psychotherapy, to inform a collaborative examination of personal valuations and recognise strengths, and to effectively implement realizable strategies.
My eclectic work and life experiences reflect a wide array of interests and a genuine passion for meeting people, with diverse backgrounds and from all walks and stages of life. I am interested in working with adolescents, adults and couples, and welcome clients from the LGBTQ+ community. If you would like to explore ways we might work together, I would be happy to address any questions you may have or to schedule an initial consultation.
Nick's services may be eligible for insurance coverage under extended health benefit plans that cover the services of Registered Psychotherapists. Please note: It is your responsibility to find out from your employer and/or insurance company about the type of mental health coverage you have. Valley Connections Counselling and our therapists are not responsible for determining whether or not your insurance company will reimburse you for our services. Please find out the details of your benefits package before booking and attending your therapy sessions. Should you attend sessions and later learn that your insurance company will not cover your therapy sessions, you are responsible for paying for the fees of all attended sessions as well as any future sessions you choose to attend.
