Marla Klinck, BA, MA (Cand.)
Child/Youth & Adult Therapist
My name is Marla Klinck, and I am a clinical counselling intern with Valley Connections Counselling. It takes tremendous bravery to reach out and whatever brings you here, I want you to know that you made an important decision, and you are not alone.
As I progressed through my Master's degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, one finding from therapy research profoundly impacted who I aspire to be as a therapist: while using evidence-based methods is vital for addressing emotional, relational, and mental health concerns, nothing is more critical to effective therapy than the relationship between the therapist and the client.
With this understanding, my first priority is to build a strong foundation of support, and develop a relationship that allows you the freedom to safely explore your concerns and work towards your goals with me in your corner. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" situation. As your therapist, I am able to draw from various evidence-based therapeutic approaches to find the right fit for you. As you invite me into your story, I look forward to helping you hear yourself more fully and explore your concerns without any fear of judgement. I will be a person who believes the very best in you, and I will strive to offer you the tools you need to move towards flourishing. My commitment is to help you find hope again, to bear witness to your pain without flinching, and to work towards your goals together.
Over the past sixteen years, my experience has included not-for-profit work with adolescents and young adults, work in premarital counselling, and pediatric clinical work. These experiences added a richness to my life that can only be described as a beautiful and chaotic masterpiece of laughter, tears, sweat, and refining the art of truly listening. I have a special interest in working with adolescents, individuals, couples, and parents. Furthermore, I strive to offer the highest level of care and service for a broad array of concerns, including: mood disorders, anxiety, panic, stress, shame, grief, trauma, eating disorders, suicide, self-harm, life transitions, martial stressors, parenting challenges, and PTSD. My approach to therapy is eclectic, and I frequently draw upon elements from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Rogerian Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and The Gottman Method.
If you are interested in exploring your concerns with me, I offer appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, if you have any questions about therapy or whether I am the right therapist for you, please feel free to contact me as I am happy to hear from you.
